Project Look Out at HICRC newsthirst.

HICRC is proud to announce the launch of the road safety campaign, Project Look Out. Directed by Jay A. Winsten, Ph.D., Project Look Out envisions the public street as a shared social space where the lives of a multitude of road users intersect and sometimes collide with catastrophic consequences. The premise underlying the campaign is that an expanding reservoir of empathy will prompt stronger efforts by road users to “look out for each other” by maintaining situational awareness of their surroundings. Project Look Out’s strategy includes:

  1. Encouraging Hollywood writers and producers of narrative shows and feature films to depict simple, positive actions by drivers (sometimes prompted by a passenger) to signal “thanks”, “your welcome”, or “I see you”, towards a fellow traveler;
  2. Testing strategies to achieve viral spread of its messaging via social media; and
  3. Sharing ideas and materials with community organizations and agencies to extend the campaign’s reach to the local level

Welcome aboard Dr. Winsten!
