Grad Lab Updates: July 2025

This summer the New England Journal of Medicine published a letter from our own David Helekal and Yonatan Grad, and lab alum Tatum Mortimer. The article, Expansion of tetM-Carrying Neisseria gonorrhoeae in the United States, 2018-2024 reports that increased doxycycline use appears to be fueling multiple-drug resistance in gonorrhea, coinciding with the rollout of Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (Doxy PEP) and changes in chlamydia treatment.

The work was covered by STAT and the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP)
