Lakshmi Priya, MPH ’25, is a Fulbright scholar, medical doctor, Carnatic vocalist, and mother to Mahalakshmi. Lakshmi will graduate this spring from the MPH-45 program in Global Health. At Harvard Chan School’s annual International Night (i-Night) celebration, Lakshmi sang a Carnatic classical piece and her daughter performed a classical dance form called Kathak.
Lakshmi shared her thoughts on coming to Boston from India, creating opportunities for her daughter, and the community she has found at Harvard Chan School.
“My friends are from all over the world,” she said, “It’s a family here for us.”
This year’s i-Night was held on February 21. The event, organized annually by the Harvard Chan Student Government Association (HCSGA), gives students the opportunity to share music, dance, and other forms of artistic expression from cultures across the globe.
In her public health career, Lakshmi hopes to be able to enact positive change on a large scale.
“Harvard Chan’s motto of health, dignity, and justice for all human beings is exactly what my ideal in my life is. … Justice is a key ideal in my life and I want to work towards equity, responsiveness, and effectiveness in public health.”
