We’re selling 50 shares of Abbott Laboratories at roughly $131.67. Following Wednesday’s trade, Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust will own 650 shares of ABT, decreasing its weighting to 2.33% from 2.5%. Shares of the diversified health-care company have been on a tear since reporting earnings on Jan. 22. While the results were initially viewed as just OK, it didn’t take long for the market to figure out that Abbott’s 2025 full-year organic sales outlook for 7.5% to 8.5% was one of the strongest within health care — especially for a company of its size. It’s been a long road but the market has finally looked past the company’s outstanding baby formula litigation issues and positively re-rated the stock’s price-to-earnings multiple. As a result, Abbott shares have spiked from $117 each before earnings to a new 52-week high of $131 on Wednesday. That’s good for a move of about 12% over a two-week period during which the S & P 500 was flat. The rally has also pushed Abbott near its record closing high of just over $141 per share in late December 2021. We continue to like Abbott in the health-care space and see no reason to change our long-term positive view of the company. But after such a big run in a short period of time, it is disciplined to book some profits. We will realize a solid gain of roughly 16% on stock purchased in early 2024.
