A smishing scam is targeting members of the Harvard community. Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) has received reports of a scam SMS being sent from an 833-area code number. The text of the message reads as follows:
“HARVARD UNIVERSITY: Your Office 365 account now requires passkey authentication. Reply with 1 to set this up.”
This message is a phishing attempt, clearly seeking to harvest credentials, and not a legitimate communication from Harvard University. We urge all recipients to not respond to the message. Instead, they should report the text as junk, and delete it immediately and report it to prevent further exposure.
